As another year draws to a close, we can’t help but reminisce on all of the incredible games we’ve created this year. At Filament Games, our first priority is to create playful experiences that improve people’s lives. Along with accomplishing that mission, this year was full of big milestones for us. We became a Roblox developer, released a game that was 5 years in the making, and so much more!

Convene the Council (iCivics)
Convene the Council is one of two games we created this year with our friends at iCivics! In the game, players learn about the different considerations behind foreign policy decisions. Players take on the role of president and address international crises by taking strategic action. Before making any decisions, however, they must step into the White House Situation to weigh the pros and cons of each situation with the members of the National Security Council. Players discover the sacrifices and risks it may take to improve U.S. values like prosperity, security, and world health! Fun fact about Convene the Council: it was made in partnership with the Council on Foreign Relations. You can play the game on the iCivics website or on an Android or iOS device.
FIRMM-pix (Turing Medical)
FIRMM-pix is a game we created with our friends at Turing Medical that incentivizes kids to keep still during an MRI scan. In fact, FIRMM-pix is the first in-scan solution combining gamification and biofeedback to reduce patient motion and improve brain MRI data quality!
FIRMM-pix includes two games designed to help a patient stay calm and still during their brain MRI so that the technician can efficiently capture high-quality images. Whether on an adventure through the enchanted Friendly Forest or a mission to discover the wonders of the Lumacave, the patient is rewarded with new characters and absorbing additions to the scenery, immersing them into the game experience more deeply.
Laureate Learning Upgrade (Attainment Company)
This year, we worked with our friends at Attainment Company to upgrade and streamline their Laureate Learning games! Previously, the games had only been released on CD-ROM. For this project, Attainment tasked Filament with porting the series to Unity. Filament worked to upgrade a variety of Laureate Learning games for English language learners, including First Words, First Words II, Simple Sentence Structure, and First Verbs. Filament combined this series of games into a single product so players can select the game and level they would like to play! In the game, a player receives a prompt and must select an answer. Teachers and caregivers can also review how long a player engaged and how well they did.
Mission: Mars (Museum of Science)
2022 was the year that Filament dove into the educational metaverse! Partnering with our friends at the Museum of Science, we created a STEM learning experience on the Roblox platform. Mission: Mars challenges a player to navigate and survive on Mars by applying the Engineering Design Process (EDP). Players must design and optimize vehicles, complete missions, and solve engineering challenges with friends or solo. If you’re interested in learning more about our collaboration with Roblox and the Museum of Science, be sure to read our interview with Christine Reich, the Jane and Payson Swaffield Chief Learning Officer at the Museum of Science. You can play the game now on Roblox.
People’s Pie (iCivics)
Back by popular demand, People’s Pie is the second title we released this year with iCivics! In this game, players learn how to manage and balance the national budget. By creating a budget and determining their priorities, players must try to keep citizens happy and decide how to tax them. In addition, they must carefully decide how much money to borrow and how much to spend. People’s Pie shows players how federal tax and spending policies affect the national budget and the national debt. Now that’s some delicious learning. 🥧 Play People’s Pie today on the iCivics website or on an Android or iOS device!
C.O.O.L. Kids Coloring (SR1)
C.O.O.L. Kids Coloring, a game we created with our friends at SR1, is part digital coloring book, part side scroller adventure! Players must help Ardie Art collect different colors so he can return stolen art to a museum. After collecting enough of each color, players can then unleash their creativity on a blank canvas or a provided illustration. The more colors players collect, the more colors they can use and the more illustrations they unlock! C.O.O.L. Kids Coloring also features a parent and teacher dashboard that can be used to monitor a young learner’s progress through the game.
RoboCo
Last but not least is Filament’s own pride and joy, RoboCo. In case you haven’t heard, RoboCo is a wholesome sandbox game about designing and building robots to serve the needs of squishy, hapless humans in the world of tomorrow! This game was 5 years in the making, and we couldn’t be more excited that it’s available to play on Steam Early Access right now. In the game, players can snap together parts to build any robot they can imagine to tackle various challenges around the RoboCo warehouse. Players can even automate their robots with Python and customize them with a variety of cosmetics (see the distinguished gentleman above in his googly eyes and tophat). Learn more about RoboCo here on the blog and check out RoboCo’s official website! RoboCo is also coming to VR in 2023, so be on the lookout for that announcement sometime next year. 👀
We’re proud to share our 2022 creations with you and honored to have worked with so many incredible partners and collaborators throughout this year. We can’t wait to see what next year holds for us – stick around to see what we dream up next!
